Junior Playing Leagues at Haggin Oaks

We have a guest blogger with us today! Kelli Corlett is Morton Golf's Junior & Disabled Golf Program Director at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. She is here today to introduce the junior playing leagues that we offer at Haggin Oaks. Is your junior looking for a fun place to play and learn the game with other kids?

At Haggin Oaks, Junior Playing Leagues are offered year round for those ages 7 to 17. The goal of these programs is not only to expose juniors to the golf course, but also help create new friendships and develop a love for the sport of golf. Children tee off in the afternoon, in groups of four with those in their age group. Coaches make sure that participants understand the concept of pace of play, golf etiquette and basic rules. Dates of each session are as follows:

Spring League Play: February 4 thru March 10 (Orientation February 1)
Little Linkers League Play: June 6 thru August 8 (Orientation May 30)
Fall League Play: October 20 thru December 1 (Orientation October 18)

Both the Spring and Fall League Play are six weeks long and our Summer Little Linker League Play lasts nine weeks. During each session, participants will receive a shirt and hat, an NCGA GHIN number as well as some on course instruction. The Nike VR_S family includes drivers, fairway woods, irons and hybrids -- all combining to what is the fastest and hottest family of golf clubs that Nike Golf has ever produced, and, in turn, generating more distance for every shot.

The Nike VR_S distinguishes itself from the original VR line with its pure emphasis on speed (hence the "S" in the name). "In golf, when we talk about distance, the first thing that comes to mind is the driver," said Tom Stites, Director of Club Creation for Nike Golf. We discovered that NexCOR face technology adds distance and will play a critical role in helping golfers to become better. They'll be hitting more shorter irons on their approach shots."

Nike's new NexCOR Face Technology maximizes distance for the widest range of players through a new speed-expanding multi face thickness design. The NexCOR infinity design creates a bridge for ultra-thin, ultra-hot faces and unmatched ball speed from every club in the bag. The location of the NexCOR technology differs from club to club.

"In setting out to create the fastest and hottest face, we know that consumers don't hit it in the same spot on the face every time," said Stites. "We conducted impact studies and were able to "map" where consumers hit the ball on the face at impact on every club. Based on those results, we are able to move this NexCOR technology around on the face. The location of NexCOR on the face differs on every club. Not every face is identical."

Starting in March through May 2012, Nike Golf will be conducting VR_S Speed Trials at hundreds of participating golf retail shops and golf courses across the country. Nike's VR_S Speed Trials will allow consumers to compare the speed of what's in their current bag to the new Nike VR_S products on a launch monitor. Today's blog post is written by Frank LaRosa. Check out Frank's recent segment on his radio show Golf to Go on ESPN 1320.

My favorite issue of Golf Digest is on the stands. It's the annual hot list review and rating of golf equipment. Well over 1,000 clubs are tested by magazine staff, retailers, and everyday players. I don't even try to hide my jealousy for a local retailer who has been a part of the review team for eight years.

Ken Morton, Jr. from Haggin Oaks Golf Super Shop is one of only seven on the enviable national retailer panel. He says 2012 is going to be a great year for new product with some cosmetically and physically distinctive clubs coming from many vendors. In early testing, the difference is measurable by players of all abilities.

Morton says, "weight and aerodynamics make the biggest waves this year". Since the USGA put limits on driver faces, the manufacturers have been more creative with new designs and technologies that produce longer and lighter golf clubs. He says the new Cleveland classic driver is the most visually distinctive driver in the last decade. He adds that the new TaylorMade RBZ Rocketballz fairway woods and hybrids tested significantly longer on the launch monitors. I can hardly wait to test drive them myself.

The Nike Golf Method putter franchise is expanding its boundaries in a Nike way with the introduction of a new mid-Mallet putter, the Nike Method Concept. Inspired by the notion of the Concept car, Nike designers have created an iconic shape that blends art with science without sacrificing the game-changing performance that Nike Method technology delivers - a smoother stroke and a truer roll with far less skid.

The art is in the profound shape. This radical shape has the appearance of a blade, yet plays like a mallet. This bold red front and the strong black back design radiates Nike and will appeal to those who are curious and are looking for ways to bring a new level of confidence to the putting green.

The science is in the multi-material technology and the distinctive two body parts. The face of the putter is light, weighing only 90 grams. The body is heavy, weighing 200 grams. On Friday, January 13th, Haggin Oaks hosted a fundraiser for one of our own, Mark McEvoy, who is battling Cystic Fibrosis and preparing for a second lung transplant. The turnout was amazing and many generous donations were made to Mark and his family. We would like to thank EVERYONE who donated their time, services or money to support Mark! "I wish we could have been at Haggin Oaks’ “Lungs or Bust” (Mark’s words) on Friday. We heard there was an amazing turnout of our friends, family, and even those who don’t know us. It's More Than Just Golf at Haggin Oaks with Their Junior Golf Programs

Recently, Frank LaRosa with Golf to Go on ESPN Radio 1320 sat down with the PGA Director of Player Performance for Haggin Oaks, Tom Morton, to discuss The First Tee junior golf programs that are held at the facility.

Tom Morton is an excellent person to run the golf lesson programs at Haggin Oaks, because he was brought up playing the game at the course. His dad, Ken Morton, Sr. has been at Haggin Oaks for over 50 years and Tom spent hours on the golf course and perfecting his game when he was a junior at the facility. He's been through the junior programs at Haggin Oaks and now he is responsible for them.

The Haggin Oaks and the Bing Maloney Golf Complex are both First Tee sites. The focus on junior golf at Haggin Oaks is more than simply teaching the basic skills of the game. It is also about focusing on life skills and core values. When junior golfers leave First Tee golf programs, not only are they better golfers, but they are better citizens as well.

Parents can expect a new shift in the focus of the Morton Golf junior lesson programs. Studies show that if a player is going to be a good or great golfer, then they also need to be a great athlete. Unfortunately, in today's world of video games, many kids aren't getting outside to engage in athletic movements.

Therefore, in today's Morton Golf junior programs, you will see a focus on non-golf athletic activities to improve movement skills that can then be applied to golf.

Most importantly, the kids are having a lot of fun. To further encourage kids to go play on the golf course, the Haggin Oaks Golf Course, Bing Maloney Golf Course and Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course have a Kids Play Free program. Year Round Junior Golf Programs at Haggin Oaks and Bing Maloney

There is much to offer in the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex and Bing Maloney Year Round Junior Golf Programs. Not only do children have the opportunity to participate in 36 weeks of golf instruction, but they can also be a part of the Little Linker Summer League Play and participate in our optional Monday Class during the summer months. During the weekly golf instruction days, junior golfers will learn how to putt, chip, pitch, hit a bunker shot, make a proper full swing, as well as learn the rules of golf. Our coaches will also introduce participants to The First Tee Nine Core Values, Nine Healthy Habits and Life Skills.

Coaches at both Haggin Oaks and Bing Maloney are excited to announce that we are implementing a new curriculum this year that is focused on building the inner athlete of all participants. By becoming a better athlete, the junior will in turn become a better golfer. We accomplish this by focusing on certain athletic movements and skills such as agility, kicking, striking, catching, balance, jumping, rotation, core strength and throwing.

Our first year round session starts January 17th with orientation on Thursday, January 12th. It isn't too late to sign up!

Mark's Story
Mark's newborn son was only 2 months old, and here we were wondering "what next"? Mark is now preparing to go back on the transplant list for a second life saving lung transplant.

Mark was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disorder of the pancreas that causes excessive mucus production in the pancreas and other organs including the lungs.

When he was born, his life expectancy was originally listed as 9 years old. As Mark grew older, Medicine grew wiser to the disease and the life expectancy of a CFer was extended to 16. Prior to his first transplant, those suffering from CF were not expected to live past their thirties, Mark was 29 at the time he received the gift of easy breathing.

Medical Overload
It's too late at night for a detailed post, but I want to keep you all informed on our happenings. We got home late Friday night & Saturday we were inundated with medical supplies for Mark's 3 different IV meds. Our house looked like a pharmacy & medical supply place blew up and we collected all the debris. It was chaos to put it nicely.

Fortunately, I have great friends and a wonderful neighbor who came over and helped me dismantle our Christmas decorations (and another friend helped me go through piled paperwork & mail) which made the house more livable. I organized all The supplies and tucked them into a cabinet I bought just for that purpose. Even so, we still have boxes of feeding tube food and bags in our dining room.

I've tried to maintain a normal house (in that previously all medical stuff was tucked away or aside), but this most recent hospital stay forced the IV pole out of its box. Mark's attached to his IV pole for nearly 20hrs each day/night as his feeding tube, lipids, and two different antibiotics are infused over various periods - with the longest running while he sleeps. His lung function is bad enough that he is no longer able to make it up the stairs to come to bed or get a new set of clothes (he sleeps downstairs and I've been bringing him clothes daily). We've not even attempted to get him upstairs for a shower, and I'm not entirely sure how we'll manage that. It's a hurdle we'll jump when we must (and I think tomorrow will have to be that day). Either we tackle the stairs or it's sponge baths from here on (perhaps he won't argue that second one too much). :)

Life's definitely different now, and I'm not entirely sure how to feel about it. Together, Mark and I oscillate between normalcy, sadness, hope, fear, and gratitude. As we get use to the new IV medication routine (which we don't know how long it will go on - the prescriptions give no indication of end point), we'll struggle, but as with everything else in our lives: we'll adapt. Together, we'll find our way. No matter how many tubes, wires, or machines he has attached to himself, I still love him and consider myself lucky and incredibly blessed to have him as my husband and the father of our child.

Ping's Solheim Proposes Golf Ball Distance Rating System

John Solheim, Chairman & CEO of PING, is proposing that golf's rule making bodies consider a "Ball Distance Rating" system (BDR) that would replace today's single golf ball limit with three different ball distance limits - one that is the same as today's standard, one that is shorter and one that is longer. Solheim's "A Long Term Response to Distance" explains how including a BDR system with a new "Condition of Competition" would give professional events and golf courses an efficient way to address future concerns about distance.

"A BDR Condition of Competition would create a simpler way to control distance at the tour level - and keep the competitive design of the world's great courses in play," said Solheim. "This concept addresses the unique talents of the top 0.1% of the world's golfers without hurting the other 99.9%." Solheim also noted that a key aspect of the idea is to give players who would benefit from it the option of using a longer ball, a choice many golfers may appreciate, especially when taking on today's longer courses. "The distance rating of the ball used would factor into handicaps, just like slope rating or choice of tee box does today."

Solheim recently sent his BDR idea to golf's governing bodies, and suggested it could be a positive factor in helping to sustain and grow the game. "I appreciate the challenges faced by those who help govern the game," said Solheim. "I am hopeful they give my idea further consideration and use it as a starting point to address some of the issues the game is facing. The positive impact golf has on so many groups requires that we explore a variety of ideas to improve the health of the sport. I hope others have suggestions to offer as well."

A Long Term Response to Distance

For as long as I can remember, golf has been challenged by concerns over driving distance. Unfortunately, over the past dozen or so years, many actions taken in response to that challenge have often been short sighted, costly and/or controversial - such as altering some of golf's most revered courses and adopting restrictive golf club rules. Now, we learn average driving distance on the PGA Tour just had another increase - it broke through 290 yards for the first time (and with so many dynamic young golfers working toward a Tour card, who knows where it will go from here). So, once again we are hearing the question: "what, if anything, should be done about it?"

With so many other challenges facing the game, we need to be sure any "distance discussions" focus on the long term - on solutions that can quickly and easily respond to future increases in distance (no matter the cause); on ideas that give professional events and courses a tool that allows each to best address the distance concerns unique to their venue; on proposals that recognize it is far simpler to adjust the ball to the course, than to adjust the course to the ball. Finally, we need a response that will resolve this issue once and for all. To get this discussion rolling, here is how I think we can do just that:

- Replace today's single golf ball distance limit with three different "Ball Distance Ratings" (or "BDRs") - one that is the same as today's limit, one that is shorter and one that is longer.

- Adopt a "BDR Condition of Competition" - each event could apply the BDR appropriate for its course design and yardage, and for the skill level of the golfers competing at the event.

- Include BDR as a factor in calculating handicaps - just as "slope rating" or choice of tee box does today, the BDR of the ball you use will factor into your handicap.

BDR golf balls should have similar flight characteristics as today's ball (trajectory, spin rates, etc) with the only variable being distance. Some details may be challenging, but I have no doubt the USGA and the R&A are up to the task. With distance as the only variable, an example of what could be done would be to adopt a color code for the several BDRs (just like we do with tee boxes), perhaps using "gold, silver and bronze". A "silver dot" rating could apply to balls that conform to the current distance limits, a "gold dot" rating to balls that are longer (perhaps 30 yards longer), and a "bronze dot" rating for balls that are shorter than today's ball limit (again, maybe 30 yards shorter). More BDR levels could be added, if needed, to address future increases in driving distance by Tour professionals.

If the game adopted a "BDR Condition of Competition", I believe the vast majority of events would choose to allow the same balls (and ball limit) used today. Most courses hosting professional tour events were built with, or have added, sufficient length to challenge the world's best golfers. Perhaps a small number of tournaments, those played at some of the game's classic courses, would find it exciting to put the original design elements of the layout back in play by requiring shorter rated golf balls. These events may even generate a lot of interest, and TV viewers. A key point of this idea is that it puts control over those decisions with the event itself. It also gives each venue a new "long term" option for responding to future increases in driving distance - bring in the bull dozers, or simply adopt a new BDR.

I recognize asking tour professionals to occasionally switch to a different rated ball creates a new challenge. However, rising above golf's toughest obstacles is what they do best. These skilled athletes likely realize that imposing equipment limits on tens of millions of amateurs - a group that is critical to golf's future - is not the best way to resolve issues unique to competitions played at the highest levels. I think the most talented professional golfers in the world would be willing to switch to a shorter ball once in awhile, if that would benefit the remaining 99.9% of us.

Giving amateurs the option of playing a new, longer rated, ball is another key aspect of this idea. Many golfers find it very difficult to play today's longer courses. Using a longer ball should make that experience more enjoyable. It may even bring some ex-golfers back to the course. Perhaps this idea could even reduce the time needed to complete some rounds, a goal shared by everyone.

There will likely be occasions when amateurs tee it up with a shorter rated ball. Some golfers may choose to do so when playing some classic courses, ones that cannot add yardage, in order to bring out the competitiveness of the original design. Others may choose to do so because it has a positive impact on their handicap. Some courses might even recommend using a shorter rated ball. Higher handicap players may find it easier to play alongside more experienced golfers - from the same tees - when using different rated balls. Each of these choices gives some control over the distance issue where it is needed most - with the golfer and the course.

This proposal could also help the USGA and the R&A. The handicap system may benefit from adding "ball rating" as a factor. This solution is also consistent with the Joint Statement of Principles announced by the USGA and R&A in 2002: it provides an immediate and an efficient way to address future increases in distance, and it is not bifurcation - amateurs and professionals will still play to a ball limit, just not necessarily the same one on the same course. Adopting a few new ball distance ratings is basically the same as adding a few more tee boxes - and adding tee boxes is not bifurcation.

In order to fully evaluate this idea, the constructive input of golf ball manufacturers will be needed (PING currently does not sell or manufacture golf balls, but we did for over 20 years). I realize this suggestion presents challenges, but a BDR system brings with it new opportunities as well. Adding new categories of "conforming" golf balls should lead to exciting new ways for golf ball companies to competitively innovate, and it could increase golf ball sales. If it were as simple to develop a club rating system that included a similar opportunity to innovate longer drivers, I know I would welcome it. However, if golf once again chooses to address driving distance, it needs a practical long term solution, and I believe a BDR system would do the job.

All of us, including those in the manufacturing community, have a responsibility to offer new ideas and appropriately work with the rule making bodies to help improve the game It can be done, as demonstrated by the positive results from the November 2010 Vancouver forum, and the solution PING provided in resolving the Eye2 controversy on the PGA Tour in early 2010. I will continue to do what I can, and I believe others will as well. The game has seen many positive changes over its long history, changes that appropriately recognize the relationship between the challenge and the enjoyment of the game at all skill levels. I believe a BDR system would provide a way to continue do just that - for a long time to come.

Ken Morton Jr. on Retailer Panel for Golf Digest's 2012 Hot List

Morton Golf's own Vice President of Retail and Marketing, Ken Morton, Jr., was one of only seven people on the Retailers Panel for the just-released issue of Golf Digest's annual Hot List that evaluates the latest golf equipment and trends.

This particular issue is Golf Digest's biggest and read issue each year. Well over 1000 golf clubs are submitted in testing and Ken is part of the panel that helps to test this equipment and provide feedback to the Golf Digest editors.

Jen: Ken, what is the best part of this process?
Ken Morton Jr.: First of all, it's the friendships that I've developed with the incredible staff of Golf Digest and the fellow retailers on the board. Digest Equipment Editors Mike Stachura, Mike Johnson, Stina Sternberg and John Strege are passionate about the process and getting it as right as they can. And with some of the other retailers like recent National PGA Merchandisers of the Year John Lyberger, Susan Roll and Leigh Bader, they're like long-lost golf industry family members.

Jen: How many years have you been doing this?
KMJ: For seven or eight years in locales from California to Florida.

Jen: Did any golf clubs stand out this year?
KMJ: 2012 is going to be a great year for new product. There is some cosmetically and physically distinctive product coming into the marketplace from many different vendors. The best part is, in the early testing we've been doing, the difference is measurable by players of all abilities.

Jen: What trends do you personally see in golf clubs for 2012?
KMJ: Weight and aerodynamics are making the biggest waves. When the USGA put a limit on the COR on driver faces a few years back, the manufacturers got creative with new designs and technologies that are making golf clubs lighter weight and longer.

Jen: Who else makes up the retailers portion of the panel?
KMJ: It's a great panel. We've got Sven from Edwin Watts, John from Congressional CC, Susan from Carlsbad Golf Center, Casey from Miles of Golf, Pete from Carl's Golfland, Leigh from Pine Oaks GC and myself.

Jen: Tell us straight. What golf clubs do you think will make the biggest splash on the market this year?
KMJ: The new Cleveland Classic driver is probably the most visually distinctive driver to come out in the last decade- and that could include the white drivers from last year. The new TaylorMade RBZ fairways and hybrids are testing significantly longer on our launch monitors than their predecessors. And I really believe that the Digest equipment editors picked four big winners with their Editor's Choices.

The Haggin Oaks Golf Shop - A Look Back in Time

My son, Brandon, recently found some old photos buried deep in our garage. Included in this container of various odds and ends was a photo book that detailed the construction of the original Haggin Oaks Pro Shop and Restaurant back in 1954. I thought the photos were a fun memento of a time gone by, and I wanted to share them with our viewers.

I took a trip out to the golf course with my camera and the original set of photos. My goal was to line the original photos up as close as I could to the same area of the Haggin Oaks Pro Shop as it looks today. I then took a picture of the result. Check out these pictures to see how much has changed as well as how much has stayed the same over the years.

I want to mention that I got the idea for this blog post from a very cool website called Dear Photograph, http://dearphotograph.com/ - if you have never seen this website, then it is definitely worth a look! The website has a theme where you "take a picture of a picture from the past in the present." Pretty appropriate description of this blog post.

1954: The front entrance to the original pro shop looks remarkably similar to today.

2012: The plaque on the right hand side of this picture details the construction of the building. I thought it appropriate to include in the pictures, don't you?

1954: The back corner of the building looks the same, minus a few pipes, landscaping and an air conditioning unit.

2012: Some things don't change much after 55+ years. This back corner office is a good example of that fact!

1954: The original back of the pro shop was simple and had lots of windows. Check out the car in the background!

2012: The Haggin Oaks Repair Center and garage were added after the original construction.

1954: The restaurant had large flower beds built in front.

2012: The restaurant side of the building has undergone a major remodel and is much bigger and now includes an outdoor patio for additional seating.

1954: Here is a shot of the side of the restaurant and includes a massive chimney that still stands there today. I have been going out to the golf course for many years now, and I don't think I ever noticed the chimney before! How bad is that?

2012: Yep! There it is - the chimney with no fireplace. Has anyone else not seen this before or is it just me?

1954: Look at how barren the land is behind the pro shop! There is no freeway, no Haggin Oaks Golf Super Shop, and no other buildings in the background.

2012: Today the photo paints quite a different picture. I can see both the Haggin Oaks Super Shop and the Driving Range in the background. I don't see the Capital City Freeway... but I know it is there!

1954: A trio of workers take a break from construction.

2012: There are a few minor changes, but the front of the building looks remarkably the same today.

The Bing Maloney Golf Complex is located in South Sacramento and the original course was built in 1952. This championship golf course features push up greens and a traditional layout. Hole #12 is considered one of the toughest holes in Sacramento. According to Andrew, "it is 440 yards over a cottonwood tree, dogleg to the left and if you walk off with a par, it feels like a birdie!"

In 1988, an executive 9-hole golf course was added to the facility which features two par-4's and the rest are par 3's.

The MacKenzie Golf Course is, without a doubt, the player's course at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. Designed by the mastermind behind Augusta National and measuring a respectable 6,991-yards from the back tees, this 73-year-old track, originally designed by world renowned architect, Alister MacKenzie, is a true test of golf for the low handicapper.

For those golfers out there who are more interested in a tamer test of their skills, the middle tees play to 6,542-yards and the forward tees offer a softer challenge at a mere 6,057-yards. Whatever tee you play from, you'll be treated to a great escape from the heart of the city and the concrete jungle as you play among the stately heritage oaks along the plush bent grass greens and fairways of the MacKenzie Course.

In 2001, the city put $6.5 million into renovations at the MacKenzie course, improving irrigation and rebuilding the 18th and 9th greens to fit the original Alister MacKenzie design. In doing so, they created an island among the three freeways, I-80, Business 80 and Watt Avenue that encircle the complex. The escape is so complete that after you clear the first tee, your only reminder of the world outside is the occasional passing of a freight train just outside the northern border of the 350-acre layout.

Other than that, there are no houses, no buildings and no reminders of the outside world once you're underway. Here, the stately oaks average over 100-years-old, the bent grass fairways and teeing areas are lush casting a brilliant green luster from tee to green.

The greens on the MacKenzie course are small by today's standards and very very fast, running up to 11 and 12 on the stimp meter when tournaments come to town. With very little water (Arcade Creek comes into play on five holes) and no fairway bunkers, the small, heavily bunkered greens require shot-making and putting to be absolutely razor sharp to score.

Nowhere is this more evident than on the signature par 3, #16. Playing 192 yards from the back tees and overshadowed by a dominating old oak on the right side of the green and Arcade Creek looming along the left and wrapping along the back of the green, this par three provides a great test of iron precision. Once aboard, this rather large green has three distinct sections and if you're on the wrong one, three putts are not out of the question.

From 16 it is a short trip to 17 tee and a great risk/reward par five. Measuring 561 from the back tees with the creek running along the right of the fairway, accuracy from the tee is key. While the fairway is large and open, the creek seems to beckon to the tee shots especially for the slice of fade player.

Proper placement from the tee, though, puts you in great shape to go for this green in two and avoid the huge oaks that create a tight field goal into the green which is framed well by ancient forest. A good second gives a legitimate shot at eagle. Birdie is an almost must for the low handicapper.

Bringing it home on 18 is like bringing it home on the PGA tour. This short par five is very reachable, but the crossing bunker in front of the green is classic MacKenzie design as it gives the illusion of being green-side, while in reality it is a good 50-yards short of the hole, lulling the unsuspecting player to take one less club than necessary.

If you choose the right club, you're treated to a nice walk up to a stadium area behind with the scoreboard and clubhouse providing the backdrop. In front of the green, two bunkers guard against the run-up from the fairway. You can sense the history here as Hogan, Venturi, Snead and other greats stalked their eagle putts on the way to great tour finishes.

A Hole-in-One for the Holidays

John Lillis was recently fitted for a new set of PING G20 irons with Matt Young at the Haggin Oaks Golf Super Shop. What were the results? Pretty good, I think. John got a hole-in-one on his first swing with his brand new fitted irons! How sweet is that?

Haggin Oaks Club-Fitter Matt Young writes about the fitting and John's hole-in-one experience on his popular blog, My Life on the Green. Here's an excerpt from Matt's article in John's own words:

I received the new clubs at my house on Sat.,12/17/11 and didn't have time to even hit a shot with them. I played the next day and did not have time to hit any warm up shots and with the frost delay rode with my friend, Steve Rhodes, to join three other golfers waiting on the 15th tee.

I was second to play and chose a 7 iron. I hit the ball exactly where I wanted it to go and it rolled from right to left approximately 15 feet and dropped into the hole!!!!!

Fourteen Golf Announces New RM-11 Wedge

IRVINE, Calif. -- Fourteen Golf, recognized as a worldwide leader in wedge design with 38 professional tour victories in 2010 and 2011, has announced that the company has shipped their new RM-11 Wedge into retail and holiday sales have been outstanding.

According to Fourteen Golf COO Marcy Kamoda, "We are extremely happy with the early sales of the RM-11 Wedge. It sold well into retail and is selling through at a positive rate. We contribute this success to the company's reputation as a wedge authority and for the awareness it has gained on the PGA Tour. The new RM-11 Wedge was a proto-type on the PGA Tour well before it shipped into retail. Its instant acceptance on the exclusive tour validated its performance characteristics associated with the enlarged grooves and detailed testing proved it.

The larger grooves translate to maximum spin with exceptional control. The new USGA conforming Fourteen Golf trapezoidal grooves have been enlarged by 15% as compared to its predecessor. This increase in overall groove volume enhances spin retention particularly on partial shots and provides extraordinary control, incomparable spin and precision like accuracy.

To ensure optimal spin with precision and tighter tolerances, Fourteen Golf mirror mills each larger groove on the RM-11 Wedge.

This additional procedure takes an enormous amount of time but it is done to achieve and attain the highest spin performance possible.

The RM-11 Series of Wedges feature a different sole shape according to a specific loft. The 48-degree loft is designed for optimum performance and control with a full shot. Where the 56 and 58-degree lofts are engineered to employ or take advantage of the bounce with an approach shot. The 60-degree wedge is designed to assist with a high lob shot.

The leading edge on this totally new wedge is relatively straight but slightly rounded to give the impression of wrapping the ball on each shot. Professionals and amateur golfers alike will appreciate the versatility these wedges provide. For a solid and pure shot the engineers designed the lie angle to be slightly upright and made it 64 degrees (for 56-60 degree models).

Ping Brings New "Skins Game" Feature To iPing App For iPhone & iPod Touch

STX Golf Announces New Sync 6 Putter
